Ian J. Bateman is Professor of Environmental Economics and Director of the Centre for Social and Economic Research on the Global Environment (CSERGE; www.cserge.ac.uk) at the University of Exeter. He holds a Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award (awarded 2011 for five years). Ian is a Member of the Science Advisory Council for the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra); Principle Investigator (PI) for the NERC Valuing Nature Network (http://www.valuing-nature.net); and PI of the ESRC SEER Large Grant (http://www.cserge.ac.uk/current-research-projects/seer).


He was Head of Economics for the UK National Ecosystem Assessment (NEA;http://uknea.unep-wcmc.org); His main contributions to the NCC are in the area of: Integrated environmental and economic analyses; The valuation of non-market goods and services and working with decision makers to address real world environmental resource management issues.
